Tanzanite
Intense violet to blue color gives tanzanite much of its value. Paler stones are more common plus less valued.
What to look for
Color
Shows blue plus violet by angle. The deepest bluish violet usually comes above 5 carats.
Clarity
Visible inclusions lower value, most of all in lighter stones.
Cut
Cushions, trillions plus ovals are most common. The cut decides blue or violet face up.
Carat
The richest color tends to appear in bigger stones.
