What to look for
Color change
Best: bluish green in daylight, red to purplish red under warm lamps.
Clarity
Most fine gems are eye clean.
Cut
Cutters orient the stone to show the strongest change through the top.
Carat
Most are under a carat. Fine stones above 5 carats are very expensive.
