Lapis Lazuli
The finest lapis has even color with no visible calcite. Gold flecks of pyrite are common.
What to look for
Color
Deep, saturated greenish blue to violetish blue. Royal, midnight, marine.
Surface
Top lapis shows no white calcite, though it may carry gold pyrite flecks.
Cut
Usually cabochons, beads, inlays plus carvings.
Size
Found in large pieces, so it suits bold designs.
