Aquamarine
Fine aquamarine is a marriage of color plus clarity. The best are dark blue to slightly greenish blue with no visible inclusions.
What to look for
Color
Look for even blue with no zoning. It is most striking above 5 carats.
Clarity
Most faceted aquamarines are eye clean. Expect good transparency.
Cut
Often emerald cut, round or oval. A favorite for one-of-a-kind designer cuts.
Carat
Large sizes are easy to find. Small accent stones tend to be paler.
