Emerald is, most of all, about color. Subtle variations make a big difference in value.
What to look for
Color
Bluish green to pure green, vivid plus not too dark. Even color, high transparency.
Clarity
Most emeralds show inclusions you can see. Eye-clean stones are rare plus valuable.
Cut
The emerald cut follows the crystal. Good cutting brings out color plus hides fissures.
Carat
At the same quality, price rises sharply as size goes up.
